Review
I think my leadership skills were developed in the project as I had to overcome my nerves of speaking in front of a large audience, which was improved throughout the course as we had to regularly give briefs or communicate with the rest of the group doing the course. Therefore, by the time I had to give my presentation for my leadership project I was a lot more comfortable at public speaking/presentations than I was at the start of the course. For my project, I had to think very carefully about the way I was going to express myself and how I was going to word things so that my presentation would be clear and easily understandable. To do this, I wrote out my powerpoint in note form before writing it up onto powerpoint and even after that I practiced my lesson a couple of times infront of my parents so that I could edit what I had written and condense the writing into its simplest form. Having to write up a lesson plan and schedule for my presentation was extremely helpful because it stopped me from rambling in my presentation (a poor habit of mine) which made my presentation flow better and was more concise. This was further helped through the use of my print outs but they could have been more effective if I had written them in a larger font.
The project was still challenging for me because I was still nervous despite having loads of practice so I continued to rush through my presentation but in spite of that I think people managed to understand what I was saying. I think I could have prepared more examples of film where there is or a lacking of feminism in its production and/or creation as I couldn't support my arguments as well as I would have liked and it made the Q and A slightly harder and more stressful.
From this task I have learnt that preperation is a significant factor and you can never prepare too much. I also think that providing tasks for your class to do when giving a lesson is also extremely important as it is easy for people to zone out and ignore what you are trying to teach them. Furthermore, something that was really important for me when conducting my leadership task was how I presented myslef through the way I spoke. Even though I rushed through my presentation, I made sure that I was saying the right thing and that my explanations were easy to understand by choosing my words correctly and pausing to think before I spoke.
By looking through the feedback forms completed by my classmates, it appears that I was successful in my task as most people claimed to have found it interesting and valuable information which they would not have researched on their own.
